How can I be sure that my information is secure when
I submit a request for a quote through your website?
|
|
The SiteLock emblem
you see on the pages used to submit your information
for a quote means that your information is
transmitted via SSL (Secure
Socket Layer). Technically speaking,
it’s a method for securely transferring data via the
Internet between two parties.
|
How does SSL work?
|
|
SSL establishes an encrypted connection between our
website and your browser. It’s like a locked brief
case that you use to send your personal information.
Once you hit “submit” at the bottom of the form, the
data travels in the locked case, to the server where
our website is stored. The case can’t be unlocked
while on the way, and can only be unlocked with a
private key on our web server. Thus, the case with
your data arrives safely at the other end!

How do I get the best rate on my
auto insurance?
All auto insurance carriers are different in how
they assess their auto rates. Below are some
general suggestions on how to make sure you get the
most from your auto insurance at the best rates
possible. |
|
1. |
Shop around. This is certainly
intuitive, but many people don't take
the time to call around to check on
pricing. If looking for a new policy,
try at least three different carriers,
preferably more. Remember, you do not
have to wait until your renewal to shop
for insurance, and you can usually
cancel your policy at any time during
the term with written notice to your
carrier.
|
|
2. |
Take advantage of all available
discounts.
|
● |
Make sure to tell us if you
are retired. |
|
● |
If you are elderly, consider
taking a safe driving course
such as offered by AARP. |
|
● |
Young drivers may be
eligible for discounts for
good grades or defensive
driving courses. |
|
● |
Safety discounts vary by
state, but certain safety
features in your car, such
as anti-theft devices or
automatic seat-belts may
save you money.
|
|
|
3. |
Increase your deductible. The more risk
you assume, the lower your rates.
|
|
4. |
Check your credit. Insurance companies
use something called an "insurance
score" to evaluate your credit
worthiness. Similar to your credit
score, your insurance score puts more
emphasis on your payment history than
your overall debt. Make sure you review
your credit score regularly and correct
any mistakes. You can also access your
"insurance score" at
Choicetrust.com for a $12.95 fee.
|
|
5. |
Drive safely. Ok, everyone knows this.
Accidents and tickets may impact your
rate. Moving violations are considered
more serious than parking violations.
An at fault accident, even if you did
not receive a ticket, will still result
in "points" on your insurance record.
Pass a school bus? Expect your rates to
increase substantially. Driving under
the influence? Expect your rates
to increase exponentially, and you may
also risk cancellation. Some companies
offer "accident forgiveness" which means
they may charge you a bit higher rate
from the beginning, but will not
increase your rates after one accident.
Others offer accident free discounts,
which will start your premium at a lower
rate and then increase if you have an
accident.
|
|
6. |
Pay your insurance premium in full.
This can be a substantial discount with
some companies. If you cannot pay in
full, late payments will impact your
rates. Never let your coverage lapse.

My neighbor's tree fell in my yard and I have to
pay? What's with that?
|
|
So your neighbor's tree fell into your yard. Their
insurance should pay to remove the tree and repair
any damage to your home or auto, right? Not so
fast. Unless their tree was dead or dying,
presented an imminent visible hazard, and you
notified them of such, then they are most likely not
liable for any damage to your property or removal of
the tree.
If you notice a dead or dying tree in your
neighbor's yard, then your best bet is to notify
them in writing of the potential hazard. If they
ignore your warning, then this circumstance could be
proof of negligence and your damage may be covered
by their homeowners insurance. In order to expedite
repairs to your damaged property, you may file a
claim with your insurance company and they can
collect for damages from your neighbor’s carrier.

What if I have hail damage?
|
|
Roofers knocking on your door claiming that you have
hail damage and can get a new roof at absolutely no
cost to you? Are they telling you that your
insurance will not increase because it was an act of
nature? Are they correct? Possibly, but not
always. Some points to consider: |
|
¤ |
Hail damage will often be covered by
your homeowners insurance but your rates
may be impacted. If you have been loss
free in your home, then you will often
be receiving a claim free discount.
Once you file a claim you will lose
this discount, often between 5-10%.
|
|
¤ |
If your area has been impacted heavily
by storm damage, then the insurance
companies will ask for and often receive
an overall increase in rates which will
impact not only those with hail damage,
but everyone in the area with homeowners
insurance.
|
|
¤ |
If your roof was old and leaking in the
first place, the insurance adjuster may
inspect your home and inform you that
you must replace the entire roof at your
expense within a certain time period
because per your policy, you are
required to maintain your home. |
There are hundreds of legitimate roofers, some may
not be. Don't let the idea of a free roof guide you
to make an unwise decision. Call your insurance
company first and have an adjuster look at your roof
and verify the damage and how much they will pay.
Then, check your roofers’ credentials and client
recommendations before proceeding. Please do not
proceed / pay for your new roof before you have
checked with your insurance company first. |
